✅ Written for the screen but staged like a play, it works terrifically in its self-imposed limitations.
✅ Carried by superb acting and cinematography, the family portrait with its generational and social contrasts turns into a painting itself.
✅ Lancaster and Berger are dubbed, but the movie can’t and shouldn’t be separated from its Italian language.
And in the end, it’s about how we will be remembered.
Addendum
As for the title, the English title is the technical term for what the Italian title describes. Also, as so often, Germany wins the Most Screamingly Asinine Movie Title of the Year Award with the attention grenade Gewalt und Leidenschaft. (Clickbait must be a German invention.)
