13. Klangräume: Retrospektiv by ART Ensemble NRW

Exciting Neue Musik retrospective with Krzystof Penderecki’s “Three Miniatures” for violin and piano as appetizer and Johannes K. Hildebrandt’s »Käfer« for ensemble as furious desert.

In between, on the one hand, there were Henry Mex’s “Change” for chamber orchestra, which develops from (what I hear as) industrial vibes into more organic structures that (at least for me) come across as even more menacing, and Dimitri Terzakis’s »Seelenbilder« for violin, clarinet, cello, and piano, a composition around byzantine melodies in untempered presentation.

On the other, there were two very strong compositions by, respectively, Erik Janson with « Espace NRW—Silcence de la ville » and Miro Dobrowoly with „Dixtuor” for ensemble with sopile (which traditionally come in pairs).

The ART Ensemble NRW was top, as always. Absolute pleasure to listen to.
