Just when ChatGPT and other large language models bumped their heads harshly and audibly against the ceiling of reality, the promises swiftly became more spectacular than ever.

From “Planning for AGI and Beyond” on OpenAI’s website:

If AGI is successfully created, this technology could help us elevate humanity by increasing abundance, turbocharging the global economy, and aiding in the discovery of new scientific knowledge that changes the limits of possibility.

That’s the entire article in a nutshell: pretentious, pompous, and perfectly vacuous.

Assuming these people live in a fantasy world where they see themselves as modern-day demiurges who will soon create Artificial General Intelligence from large language models is the charitable option. Assuming they’re grifters is the other.
